Safeguarding
How RUIN keeps the people who use it safe, and who is responsible for what.
Last updated October 2026
What RUIN is, and isn't
RUIN is a prevention and intervention tool. It helps someone get through an urge to gamble and see the real cost of carrying on. It is not treatment, therapy or a crisis service, and it does not replace the support your organisation provides.
Anonymous by design
- No accounts, names, email addresses or phone numbers are collected from the people who use RUIN.
- Anything a person enters, including spend figures and reflections, is stored only in their own browser on their own device.
- No financial or debt information is ever sent to or stored on our servers.
- No advertising or third-party tracking is used.
Crisis signposting
The National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133, free, 24/7) and Samaritans (116 123) are shown throughout RUIN. RUIN does not offer direct contact with OutSolo as a support route.
Who supports whom
- Partner organisations are responsible for the people they share RUIN with, under their own safeguarding policies.
- OutSolo supports partner organisations with access, technical issues and materials.
- Partners receive notice of any change to their access, as set out in their partner agreement.
Built from lived experience
The words people read at their hardest moment are written by someone with lived experience of gambling harm, not generated.
